Zoning Atlas Data

The National Zoning Atlas (NZA) maps local zoning restrictions on housing construction across the United States. Cornell University Professor Sara Bronin founded the project, and she developed the NZA methodology with Aline Fader, Scott Markley, and Evan Derickson. A collaborative of teams have contributed to the atlas with regional and state atlases. The Mercatus Center at George Mason University has supported several of these teams with grants, and we have compiled data from these teams. Participating teams include:

-the Frontier Institute (Montana)
-the Center for Ethics in Society at St. Anselm College (New Hampshire)
-Housing Forward Virginia (Virginia)
-the Beacon Center (Middle Tennessee)
-HousingNow!, a task force of Faith Action for Community Equity (Hawaii)
-Suffolk University School of Law (Massachusetts)

This page makes available for download the GeoJSON files and XLS/CSV spreadsheets compiled by those teams. Click the links below to download the files.
